The campaign to stop daylight saving in the UK has received a blow that may cost lives, according to experts.

Lighter Later was not passed in the House of Commons after the session timed out before the motion could be put through.

GEM Motoring Assist claim that the failure of the government to shift forward time by one hour, so that an hour of daylight moves from the morning to the evening, will have a severe impact on road safety in Britain.

Furthermore, stopping the practice of daylight saving would have improved the health and wellbeing of the nation, in addition to cutting energy costs.

David Williams, GEM chief executive, commented: "Year on year the evidence shows that the accident rate on the roads increases after the clocks go back and we believe that this unnecessary hold up will cost lives."

The Lighter Later campaign claims that the bill wasn't passed because of a series of wrecking amendments that were introduced, in an attempt to waste time and prevent the issue from being taken to vote.ADNFCR-1627-ID-801271385-ADNFCR
