Fleet solutions managers given snow advice

The Highways Agency has warned fleet solutions managers in charge of commercial vehicle contracts to be careful of the snowy weather conditions across many parts of the UK.
Fleet solutions managers in the east and west Midlands and the south-west England were particularly warned to ensure their drivers were prepared for the conditions, with rain turning into heavy snow showers.
It can take ten times longer to stop when roads are icy and so commercial vehicle hire drivers need to leave a bigger gap between themselves and the car in front.
The agency also stated that journeys need to be planned in advance, with the weather and road conditions checked before commercial vehicles head off.
Should the weather become severe, fleet solutions managers should consider delaying journeys until it is safer to travel.
Auto Windscreens recently reported that windscreen-related issues - such as cracks from the icy weather - could result in four times as many vehicles failing their MOT in 2010 when compared to last year.
