Car leasing contract owners have been reminded by the Institute of Advanced Motorists not to be complacent when it comes to the security of their vehicles.

Although the majority of vehicles now come with an alarm and immobiliser as standard, thieves have shown they are still a threat.

Keeping vehicles in a secure location when they are not in use may be a priority for car leasing contract bosses, while fleet solutions managers may wish to remind drivers not to leave keys on view.

Peter Rodger, chief examiner at IAM, says: "It seems obvious, but we'd still remind drivers, where possible, to park in a well lit, busy area with valuables out of view - and make sure your car has both an alarm and an immobiliser."

Company car drivers are among those advised to keep their vehicle in a garage, which offers significantly more protection than parking at the roadside.

Managers of commercial vehicle hire contracts were last week advised by the Road Haulage Association to beware of thieves, after a wave of incidents where depot fences were cut through to get to vehicles were reported.ADNFCR-1627-ID-19611144-ADNFCR
