Commercial vehicle hire drivers could be fined up to £2,500 if they are caught using a mobile phone behind the wheel.
The warning by Norfolk Constabulary may catch the attention of fleet solutions bosses who are in charge of risk management strategy for firms across the UK.
Since January 25th, Norfolk Constabulary has been on the streets attempting to catch motorists - including those driving as part of a commercial vehicle hire programme - using handheld devices while driving.
Just a week in to the month-long project it has reprimanded more than 50 people.
In order to avoid a hefty fine and penalty points, commercial vehicle hire drivers may decide to leave their mobiles alone, while fleet solutions managers could be best advised to offer their hauliers a reminder of the rules.
Other safety worries to take into account when producing a risk management strategy which have been revealed recently include the fact that, according to Brake, many British crash barriers are too short to prevent accidents at either end.
