People who take out a commercial vehicle hire contract may wish to alert their drivers of the state of Britain's crash barriers as part of their risk management strategy.

The chief executive of road safety organisation Brake has reacted to the EuroRAP report by claiming that many barriers on the UK's roads are too short to offer the protection they ought to.

Mary Williams believes there is an "urgent need" for crash barriers on motorways to be lengthened - or a threat to those driving a van or truck which is part of a commercial vehicle hire project will remain.

However, Ms Williams believes the problems on minor roads - which could be encountered by fleet drivers - are very different.

She says: "Such roads do not need more road furniture such as crash barriers between lanes that only encourage drivers to think they are safe and drive faster."

In particular, fleet solutions bosses may wish to limit the speed of young drivers, who were last week said to be the most unsafe by moneysupermarket.com.ADNFCR-1627-ID-19582263-ADNFCR
