All-year BST may complement good risk management strategies
Fleet bosses keen to ensure their risk management strategies are as successful as possible may agree road safety would be improved by keeping British Summer Time (BST) all year round.
Gem Motoring Assist suggested this measure would reduce the number of traffic accidents involving children walking home from school on dark winter afternoons.
A poll by the road safety group found 86 per cent of drivers are concerned they will not be able to see kids as the nights start to draw in.
Meanwhile, 90 per cent said they did not think parents do enough to make sure children are clearly visible to motorists.
Gem is encouraging youngsters to wear fluorescent orange vests when walking home from school.
However, it stated the country's leaders could also help to improve road safety.
The organisation claimed: "The government's reticence to keep BST all year long is causing deaths and hundreds of injuries to youngsters on their way home from school on dark murky autumn and winter afternoons."
In other news, Gem Motoring Assist previously called on all auto manufacturers to include free tyre-pressure measuring devices with their vehicles.
