Cycling safety campaign may help improve risk management programmes
A new campaign may be welcomed by fleet bosses looking to improve their companies' risk management strategies.
The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has launched an initiative to try and make student cyclists more aware of lorries.
It stated a significant number of people returning to university are likely to use bikes to get to and from lectures.
The group acknowledged this can be a cheap option, but also pointed out it can be dangerous if people are not sufficiently aware of other road users.
Spokesperson Jo Tanner stated: "Making sure you can see a truck's mirrors or ensuring you're not in a blind spot at the front of a truck can seriously reduce the risk of an accident."
Cyclists were also urged to indicate clearly and avoid using mp3 players while on the road.
Meanwhile, green fleet bosses may back FTA calls for reduced Severn Bridge tolls for environmentally-friendly companies.
