Fleet bosses keen to ensure their risk management strategies are as successful as possible may agree novice motorists should be discouraged from taking to the road after 23:00 at weekends.

The pay-as-you-drive insurer Coverbox claimed this is the most dangerous time for individuals aged under 23 to be behind the wheel, adding cover providers refer to it as the superpeak period.

It claimed the risk posed to young drivers themselves and other road users increases as the weather starts to get worse around October time.

For businesses that have employees working 24 hours a day, seven days a week, this could be a cause for concern.

Coverbox suggested mums and dads could help to discourage their children from getting behind the wheel at night.

Managing director Paul Stacy stated: "The best thing a parent can do is agree to pay for daytime pay-as-you-drive car insurance, but insist their offspring cover the cost of superpeak driving."

In other news, TyreSafe recently claimed tyre pressure needs to be checked at least once a month.
