Fleet operators keen to improve their road risk management strategies may want to follow the example of a leading supermarket.

The online shopping division of Tesco has claimed implementing a new programme has helped it save millions of pounds.

It revealed traffic offences committed by its drivers have been cut by 60 per cent.

Damage to its 3.5-tonne vans have been reduced by 90 per cent - resulting in savings of more than £1 million.

The group has also managed to lower fuel consumption by 11 per cent, which has lead to a drop in expenditure of £1.4 million a year.

Spokesman Andy Kemp stated: "We are at the forefront of proactively managing occupational road safety."

He added: "The financial benefits of the programme run into savings of millions of pounds."

In other news, vehicle recovery firm Tracker recently suggested businesses and individual drivers could reduce the risk of having autos stolen by looking after keys carefully.
