A new coach and lorry park in Birmingham City Centre is now open, some ten years after the closure of the city's previous facility.

The new Brewery Street secure park has 32 coach and lorry spaces, a rest room with hot and cold water, showers and toilets.

To ensure security, the new park is also monitored by CCTV after the designers harnessed market intelligence provided by the Department of Transport and the West Midlands Freight Quality Partnership.

Before the opening of the new facility, fleets were forced to stay in insecure parking areas when in and around Birmingham City Centre.

Road Haulage Association director of policy Jack Semple commented: "This is good news for the industry, because it meets an urgent need.

"Safe and secure rest areas are essential for truck drivers who must take regular breaks by law and in the interests of road safety."

The Freight Haulage Association has also previously highlighted the importance of the provision of secure lorry parking facilities in reducing lorry crime.ADNFCR-1627-ID-801266287-ADNFCR
