Car fleet owners whose vehicles regularly travel in London may be unhappy with the proposals put forward by London First which would see the Blackwall Tunnel turned into a toll road.
For those with cars or a fleet of HGVs, the toll could add a significant amount of expense to an already costly motoring bill in the capital.
The business membership group is suggesting that the Blackwall toll could help to pay for other crossings of the Thames in east London - such as the proposed Silvertown passing, New Civil Engineer reports.
The online publication states: "Many European countries have tolls on bridges and motorways and manage to modernise and extend their public transport and road networks."
An increased number of crossings could bring benefits to car fleets, though, such as a reduction in traffic and a rise in productivity.
Last week, the Road Haulage Association described plans to rise tolls on the Tamar Bridge - which links Devon and Cornwall - as "unacceptable".
