Those in commercial vehicle leasing and fleet management may be interested to hear the Department for Transport's (DfT) latest plans.
It was announced this week that a series of new measure s would be introduced that were designed to improve road safety legislation for drivers of lorries, buses and motorcycles.
New drivers who wish to tow medium-sized trailers will also be affected by the new requirements, which have been put together in partnership with the Driving Standards Agency and Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency.
From 2013, five-year renewals for bus and lorry drivers under 45 will require an accompanying medical fitness confirmation, while photographs will still need to be replaced once every ten years.
Rosemary Thew, chief executive of the DSA, commented: "It's important that everyone has the skills they need to drive or ride safely."
This week also saw the DfT publish details of an advertising campaign that it hopes will help convince drivers to consider carbon emissions reduction.
