Calls for more investment in fleet solutions research

Transport specialists and fleet solutions representatives have called on the government to invest more in the sector.
A number of commercial vehicle manufacturers and experts gathered at a recent event in Brussels to highlight some of the challenges currently faced in the market.
Officials and members of the European Parliament were also on hand to hear how the freight transport sector needed more money for research and development (R&D) if it was to attain certain targets.
Leif Ostling, chairman of the ACEA Commercial Vehicle Board, participated in the discussions and explained it was important for the continent to take its cues from what has happened in other countries.
"We have seen recent initiatives by governments in other parts of the world to invest heavily in R&D that contributes to environmental and related sustainability goals," he said. "We hope to see similar initiatives in Europe".
Last week, transport minister Chris Mole said operators could expect more money to be put into facilities like the M1 motorway, which is an "iconic" part of the UK infrastructure.
