M1 investment promise may buoy grey fleet operators

The M1 is likely to remain the backbone of the UK well into the future, if one expert's comments are anything to go by.
Commenting on the 50th birthday of the motorway, transport minister Chris Mole said grey fleet operators would continue to see investment in what is an essential part of Britain's transport network.
He added that the milestone anniversary of the M1 was reflective of its position as an "iconic" part of the transport infrastructure.
Mr Mole confirmed that managed motorway technology was just one thing that was being rolled out on particularly busy sections of the road, which it was hoped would lead to an ease in congestion.
"The M1 is a key artery, impacting upon both national and local economies, moving goods and people to places around the United Kingdom, whilst supporting investment," he said.
BBC News published a series of photographs this week looking back at the construction and history of the motorway.
