Gordon Brown's comments may have reassured contract hire customers
Companies looking to increase their fleet of contract hire vehicles and build their businesses in the coming years may have been reassured by the prime minister's comments at the Labour Party conference this week.
According to the Freight Transport Association (FTA), some of the plans outlined by Gordon Brown could prove positive for firms up and down the UK.
The organisation said a national investment scheme for British companies could prove invaluable to businesses looking to expand.
Spokesman James Hookham commented: "The devil will be in the detail, but this - plus the increase in training opportunities - could help those areas reliant on logistics to turn the corner in these tough times."
However, he added the new proposals will be useless if there is not continued investment in the country's infrastructure.
Mr Hookham concluded the government must recognise the important contribution made by hauliers and provide the logistics sector with the support it requires.
In other news, FTA recently welcomed the EU Road Transport Package adopted by the UK - which has been designed to introduce new rules on cabotage and tighten up existing road operator licensing across the continent.
