Hitachi Capital Vehicle Solutions' customers may agree the closure of a Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (Vosa) test station at Llandrindod Wells is bad news.

The Road Haulage Association (RHA) said plans to bring assessment centres closer to operators were a good idea.

Previously, it was announced inspections would be moved from Vosa sites to new contracted authorised testing facilities (ATF).

However, RHA pointed out, despite the fact the Llandrindod Wells facility is due to shut this Friday (September 25th), an agreement has still not been reached with a local ATF provider.

It also claimed even if such a contract is sorted out, it is unlikely the firm in question will agree to take large articulated trucks in light of the significant investment required to do so.

Head of communications Kate Gibbs commented: "Hauliers are already facing an uncertain future and this represents an additional worry that they can well do without."

In other news, RHA recently claimed British businesses will need to pay more for the transportation of goods as a result of the rising costs faced by fleet operators.
