Drivers of company cars could benefit after the European Commission set out future legal framework regarding post-sale services – a move the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has welcomed.

Following the expiry of the current Block Exemption Regulation in May 2010, the report recommended regulations for the sale of autos and aftercare services should be extended until 2013.

Commenting on the suggestions, SMMT chief executive Paul Everitt noted the importance of finding an overall solution for the aftermarket had been addressed.

He said the commission had recognised the high level of competition in the motor industry, adding: "This decision gives much needed reassurance and stability to the market during the current economic difficulties."

In conclusion, the body asserted it supports the EU's attempts to simplify legislation and stated current rules had benefited consumers through healthy competition.

The SMMT aims to promote and support the interests of the UK automotive industry by communicating with government, stakeholders and the media.ADNFCR-1627-ID-19278638-ADNFCR
