UK automotive industry 'is looking up'
The UK automotive industry has been tipped as being well poised to recover and retain its share of the world motor market.
According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), news that the New Automotive Innovation and Growth Team (NAIGT) is committed to working with the government in a bid to help the industry move forward is welcome.
SMMT chief executive Paul Everitt commented: "The new spirit of collaboration emerging from the NAIGT's recommendations has the potential to enhance the competitiveness of individual companies and the attractiveness of the UK as a location for the global automotive industry."
This will be good news for UK fleet organisations and contract hire companies looking to operate with British cars - both new and used.
Meanwhile, fleet expert Stewart Whyte, managing director of the Fleet Audits Consultancy, recently criticised the government-backed scrappage scheme.
He claimed that it is likely to create a "polarisation" between the different sectors of the UK automotive industry - organisations that sell second-hand vehicles and those that sell new models.
