Fleet operators could be faced with unforeseen costs as a result of new emission rules.
In order to comply with Euro 5 emission legislation, vehicles must now use diesel particulate filters, which restrict operators to short-distance urban work, thus creating caution and lower residual market values, according to CAP.
What's more, residual filters often get clogged in inner-city conditions and need expensive repairs or replacement parts, discouraging operators from using the technology.
John Watts from CAP explained that with "many diesel particulate filters requiring specific drive cycles in order to remain working efficiently", they need to reach a certain temperature before they begin to reduce emissions.
However, if this does not happen "they can become prone to clogging", which is particularly common in "low speed, short distance operating cycles".
This problem may also be felt more saliently by future owners as "operational radius tends to reduce in the secondary market".
However, drivers that do not comply with new Euro emission standards will face charges when driving through London's Low Emission Zones.
