A report has been published this week which may be of particular interest to those involved in the fleet solutions and commercial vehicle leasing sector.

The Department for Transport (DfT) released its figures for the third quarter of 2009 relating to the number of freight vehicles that have travelled to mainland Europe from the UK during the period.

Approved by the UK Statistics Authority, the numbers take into account use of the Channel Tunnel and ferry services, noting the 604,000 commercial vehicles using these services represents a fall of 13% year-on-year.

It added the figures breakdown as 442,000 powered trucks and lorries, with 162,000 unaccompanied trailers.

Year-end numbers showed a total of 2.4 million goods vehicles travelled from the UK into mainland Europe - 72% higher than the same 12-month period ending September 1992.

The DfT also announced that it had published its Transport Statistics Great Britain report this week.
