Green fleet bosses may back calls for extra scrappage funds
Green fleet bosses who have taken advantage of the scrappage scheme in order to boost their company's eco credentials may agree the initiative should be extended.
The Retail Motor Industry's National Franchised Dealers Association claimed the venture has been a huge success.
However, the organisation stated, with funds likely to run out before the end of the year, it is vital for the government to provide extra money to ensure the benefits of the initiative continue to be felt.
Chairman Paul Williams said: "We are bitterly disappointed at Lord Mandelson's recent comments where he rejected the possibility of continuing the vehicle scrappage scheme without even the courtesy of a meeting with the industry."
Recent government figures show 195,009 cars and vans have been ordered under the programme so far.
Earlier this month, RMI urged dealers to contact their local MPs in order to ask for their support in trying to get the scheme extended.
