Green fleet vehicle companies looking to reduce their carbon emissions may wish to consider operating electric cars.

Indeed, following the government's announcement last week that it will subsidise the purchase of every vehicle of up to £5,000 from 2011, motorists all over the UK have been making enquiries.

Electric car trader evstores has reported a rise in the number of motorists interested in its vehicles, which cost nothing to tax and can be priced at less than two pence per mile.

Co-founder of evstores Evert Geursten explained: "Buyers do not need to wait until 2011 because electric cars are available now and already provide huge savings.

"Starting from less than £10,000 our cars do not need a subsidy to make sense."

This comes after transport and business secretaries Geoff Hoon and Lord Peter Mandelson announced that the government is to pledge £250 million to public spending in a bid to encourage more motorists and fleets to opt for electric.
