Green fleet companies interested in reducing their carbon footprint might wish to take a leaf out of E.ON's book, which has opted to use Fiat Grande Punto vans.

The meter reading division of the energy organisation agreed on a five-year contract, which it believes will save a substantial amount of money on fuel and significantly reduce carbon emissions.

All of the 101 Fiat commercial vans are fitted with a speed limiter and alarm as well as air conditioning, reverse parking sensors and a rear window protection grille.

Fiat Professional's Colin Parnell explained: "E.ON chose us for a number of reasons, including the overall cost of ownership, the Grande Punto's fuel efficiency and the fact that they received positive feedback from their drivers during evaluation."

Meanwhile, green fleet vehicle companies looking to fully reduce their CO2 emissions could find that they receive an incentive for choosing electric cars.

This comes after the government recently announced that it intends to subsidise the purchase of the vehicles by up to £5,000 from 2011.
