Car fleet managers are assessing cost-cutting measures such as narrowing down car choices and restricting mileage use in the face of the declining economy, it has been reported.

Marcus Puddy, head of consultancy services at Lloyds TSB Autolease, has suggested that with the economy going from bad to worse, car fleet managers have taken action in order to save money in as many areas as possible.

"Some [companies] are considering an overhaul of fleet policy, while others are looking to streamline in specific areas such as vehicle choice, mileage allowances and tax efficiency.

"Fuel is one area where most businesses struggle to maximise efficiencies. Those with more progressive policies have already capped their choice lists using C02 limits and are seeing immediate returns on their fuel bills and overall fleet running costs."

The introduction of ultra-economic car fleets and environmentally-friendly cars from a selection of manufacturers means that car fleet managers now have the option to provide employees with vehicles which will cost the company money even over long distances.

How widely such vehicles are implemented, however, will depend on the initial costs involved with taking up contracts with suppliers during the potential recession.ADNFCR-1627-ID-18900840-ADNFCR
