Toll fees for crossing the River Severn should be reduced to alleviate the financial pressure on businesses' fleet solutions.
This is according to the Freight Transport Association (FTA), which said the charges are "unreasonably high".
Its comments come as an increase in the toll charge is expected in January.
The FTA said those using commercial vehicles for the transport of goods already pay more to use this crossing than elsewhere in the UK.
Ian Gallagher, the organisation's policy manager for Wales, said the Severn toll situation has left many businesses "reeling" as costs mount.
"The extra 10p per lorry fee may not seem a lot for the average motorist, but it will make a most unwelcome Christmas present for those companies struggling to stay afloat during the recession," he added.
Those responsible for commercial vehicle hire in UK businesses could look to make cost savings elsewhere, according to one industry commentator.
Fleet News editor Stephen Briers wrote in an editorial earlier this week that businesses looking at fleet solutions could benefit from shopping around for the best deal.
He said when it comes to commercial vehicle hire and purchase, it pays to compare prices and offers from different providers.
