Motorists and company car fleet operators could find themselves seriously out-of-pocket if they fail to carry out regular oil checks on their vehicle.

At least that is the view of car specialist company Comma, which has claimed that drivers' ignorance when it comes to the importance of vehicle oil levels costs them an average £300 million a year.

Despite the potentially crippling repair bills, a company spokesperson explained that at least five million car owners refuse to check their oil.

As such, the organisation launched the National Oil Check Week, which will comprise a roadshow around major cities in the UK, including Bristol, Birmingham and Manchester, in a bid to better educate drivers on good car maintenance measures.

Meanwhile, Continental Tyres recently launched a new website aimed at informing drivers of the best ways to safety check their tyres.

The site provides advice on the quickest and easiest ways to go about performing the task.
