The Society for Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has highlighted to its members the opportunities available to them to obtain funding from the various bodies which exist to assist businesses at present.

The SMMT has moved to highlight the number of funds available to motor manufacturers after Liberty Electric Cars celebrated its success in obtaining funding from the regional development agency One North East.

Liberty is now in a position to invest £30 million in producing the world's first zero-carbon electric 4x4, and will be working alongside Land Rover.

"The agreement highlights the value of some of the funding streams available and once again, demonstrates the important role the motor industry has to play at the heart of the low-carbon agenda," the SMMT said in a statement to the press.

The investment made by Liberty is hoped to create 250 jobs in the area at a crucial time for employment in the region.
