CMS SupaTrak has launched EcoTrak, a new vehicle tracking system which incorporates fuel usage statistics for individual vehicles.

The company says it hopes its new application will enabled fleet managers to cope with spiralling fuel costs by identifying possible areas in which to make savings.

EcoTrak works by adding fuel usage and carbon emission statistics to the data that it automatically fed back to operators during individual journeys, thereby flagging up inefficient routes or drivers.

Average fuel savings of seven per cent were recorded among companies during a trial period - something that CMS SupaTrak said would go a long way to offsetting higher fuel costs.

"At the moment, every penny counts when it comes to saving money on fuel prices," managing director Jason Airey asserted.

He added: "Our tracking system can help a driver work out exactly how much fuel they are using so that nothing is wasted and customers get the optimum distance out of their fuel."

The cost of motoring has surged by an estimated 22 per cent during the past year, due in large part to rising petrol and insurance costs.
