Drivers are being urged to check that their photocard license is up-to-date, following research revealing that over one million UK motorists currently have expired photographs on their licence.
Many drivers are currently in violation of UK driving laws by failure to possess a valid photocard licence, Sainsbury’s Finance has revealed.
In addition to those already holding an invalid licence, a further 2.9 million must be renewed by the end of 2012.
Robert Gifford, executive director at the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety (PACTS), is urging drivers to ensure that they comply with UK licensing laws and
check when the date of their license runs out.
However, he warns that authorities must “disentangle” those who genuinely forget to renew their licence and those who are “deliberately not renewing because they don’t care”.
“Those people who are deliberately not renewing, may well be the sort of person who is … putting themselves outside the law deliberately, in a number of ways,” he said.
