Smoother driving 'would save fleet solutions bosses cash'
Fleet solutions bosses may wish to discuss driving style with their drivers, after it was suggested by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) that smoother motoring can save up to £250 a year.
Multiplied across a commercial vehicle hire or car leasing fleet, that could equate to a significant saving off any fleet solutions manager's budget.
As well as saving cash through reduced fuel consumption, driving smoothly and being soft on tyres can be good for the green reputation of a firm.
Dr Neil Bentley, CBI's director of business environment, said: "Simply changing gears more smoothly to avoid sharp breaking and acceleration can reduce fuel consumption by a third."
The CBI is also calling on the government to make it compulsory for learners to prove they can drive efficiently before being awarded a license.
It was reported in January by British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association that there was a 4% fall in emissions on the UK's roads during 2009.
