Leaders of some of Britain's safest fleets want the government to introduce a mandatory qualification that young drivers must pass during their early days on the road.
As a part of many firms' fleet solutions, 48 per cent of the UK's most renowned fleet operators limit the size of vehicle a young person can drive, according to safety organisation Roadsafe.
But that does not stop motorists under 20 being the most likely age group to be involved in an accident, with 1,200 killed last year alone.
It is, as a result, likely that young people driving for businesses run an increased risk of getting caught up in a smash on the road.
The government is set to release new road safety guidelines in the spring which are designed to force fleet solutions managers to implement stricter regulations on their fleet drivers.
One safety precaution bosses could undertake to protect their firms' investment into fleet solutions, according to Protyre, is regular inspection of windscreen wipers, batteries and tyres - all of which could be damaged during cold weather.
