Fleet solutions providers may welcome plans to improve parking facilities across the UK for heavy goods vehicles.
An initiative has been confirmed by transport minister Paul Clark that will set out to raise the standard of existing options for truck drivers and invest in more new spaces.
The government agency also said it would update the Truck Stop Guide with help from the Highways Agency in a bid to ensure drivers and fleet solutions providers are aware of the facilities currently available.
Mr Clark said: "The provision of high quality parking for lorry drivers is vital in ensuring that drivers are able to take a break and are fit to drive."
He added that new guidance could help address shortages, as well as quality and consistency issues.
This week also saw the Taxpayers' Alliance publish data listing UK councils that were found to be making the most money from parking charges and fines.
