Owners of company cars may welcome drop in rush-hour driving
Motorists with company cars who have no choice but to drive in rush hour may be pleased to hear some other vehicle owners are making the effort to steer clear of roads at peak times.
According to the insurer Coverbox, nearly a fifth of its customers have changed their habits in a bid to avoid getting behind the wheel when congestion levels are likely to be at their worst.
The cover provider offers pay-as-you-drive protection and rates are higher for people taking to the road between 07:30 and 09:30 or 16:30 and 18:30.
Spokesman Paul Stacy commented: "Just under 20 per cent of policyholders have changed their habits and are reducing their rush-hour car usage."
He went on to say that four per cent of customers have not used their autos once during peak periods for three months in a row.
In other news, Coverbox previously advised parents to discourage youngsters from driving after 23:00 at weekends, as this is when novice motorists pose most risk to themselves and other people on the road.
