Sat-nav drivers' favourite device
According to a recent study by the AA, fleet managers could do a lot worse than kit out their vehicles with satellite-navigation technology.
The poll found that more than half (54 per cent) of AA members who have a sat-nav system agree that it is the best device they have ever had in their vehicle.
More than six in ten (61 per cent) claimed it had stopped them getting lost countless times - something that is sure to save fleet managers money on fuel and wear and tear repairs as unnecessary mileage is cut down.
Edmund King, AA president, said the devices could even be used to boost the safety records of fleets.
"Satellite navigation systems are brilliant devices if used safely," he said.
"A majority of those that have them think they are the best in-car device ever."
"These devices can enhance safety by reassuring drivers they are on the right route. Often roads are poorly signed so the sat-nav helps as a guide."
Fleet managers thinking of investing in the technology should also be aware that 38 per cent of members agreed they would prefer a female voice in the sat-nav, while only 18 per cent said they would prefer a male voice.
