Quiet night-time delivery methods will reduce congestion on the road, decrease carbon emissions and improve the ability of commercial vehicle hire fleets to meet delivery times, an expert believes.

Paul Clark MP, parliamentary under secretary of state for transport, suggests overcoming current restrictions on the amount of night-time deliveries by introducing quiet drop-offs.

Mr Clark says: "With the adoption of best practice in quiet delivery technology and techniques a balance can be found between protecting residents and relaxing curfews for a range of locations and store types."

Natalie Chapman, the Freight Transport Association's head of policy for London, agrees with Mr Clark, saying that quiet night-time deliveries create significant "benefits" - many of which may be enjoyed by fleet solutions bosses running a commercial vehicle hire scheme.

The night-time delivery plan may be considered by some in the industry to be the second piece of good news in recent weeks after the government announced it intends to teach those who drive for a living to do so in a more fuel-efficient way.ADNFCR-1627-ID-19662045-ADNFCR
