Commercial vehicle leasing customers may be interested to hear that a Peterborough based trucker has been ordered to pay £653 for avoiding a VOSA-issued Graduated Fixed Penalty (GFP) and failing to surrender his licence.

Motortransport.com reports that an examination of the vehicle at a junction off the M1 revealed that the trailer's parking break had seized and the front view was obscured. As a result, two GFPs totalling £90 were issued.

The driver failed to pay the fine and also failed to return his licence for the endorsement of three points.

Milton Magistrates court imposed a fine of £375 and also ordered costs of £188 to be paid. Including the outstanding GFPs this comes to a total of £653.

Peter Hearn, VOSA's Strategy and Performance Director commented: "This case highlights what can happen if a driver refuses to pay a fixed penalty. What can start off as a small fine will escalate into a much larger penalty".
