Hitachi Capital Vehicle Solutions' customers who are struggling to cope with mounting regulatory costs may welcome a recent government announcement.

Paul Clark, under-secretary of state for transport, submitted a statement to the House of Commons in which he revealed plans to make retro-reflective markings on the sides and back of new trucks mandatory have been delayed, Roadtransport.com reported.

The conspicuity rules will now not come into force until July 10th 2011.

Companies were previously facing the prospect of having to comply with the regulations from October 10th 2009.

The requirements are being made law in a bid to cut down on road traffic accidents by making trucks more visible.

Roadtransport.com reported Jo Tanner from the Freight Transport Association said: "It makes a change for the government to listen to the concerns of the industry, but it is a shame it does not listen hard when it comes to bigger issues."
