Transport planners for company cars and heavy-duty vehicles may be interested in news from the Olympics construction bosses.

Concerns over the impact of the games on fleet business has been expressed by a number of organisations, since creation of the route network may disrupt key routes, RoadTransport.com reported.

Some 232 sections of existing roads will be designated as priority spots for athletes, officials and the media when the events come to the UK in 2012.

Hugh Sumner, Olympic Delivery Authority transport director, attempted to reassure companies. He said the effects would "not be readily visible, will be short in duration and only apply on a number of days".

"The orders have a timescale of two years, so there will be time for any potential problems to be addressed and amended orders to be introduced before the games, should any potential problems arise," he added.

Progress is being made in the construction of a new network of roads and bridges in the Olympic Park, games officials have claimed.
