Commercial vehicle operators 'must keep on top of law changes'
Commercial vehicle fleet managers should take extra steps to keep abreast of the latest industry news and ensure they are operating within the law, it has been claimed.
The Freight Transport Association (FTA) will be running a series of seminars across the UK between September and December this year in an effort to highlight the latest challenges facing operators.
Each meeting will feature contributions from several industry experts and is designed to keep managers informed of the latest changes in vehicle testing and transport legislation.
Simon Chapman, chief economist at the FTA, said: "The industry is under intense pressure from cost unpredictability, falling levels of activity as a result of the recession and a constant stream of new legislation and compliance practices."
He claimed it is therefore vital for fleet operators to keep up with any amendments to the law and be aware of their responsibilities.
This comes after the Road Haulage Association last week advised transport managers to ensure their workers are up to speed with the latest training requirements.
As of September 10th this year, drivers will require a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence to get behind wheel of any vehicle weighing 3.5 tonnes or over.
