Businesses are driving new car sales in the UK, according to the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA).
Commenting on New Car Registration Figures for 2011, released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), John Lewis, chief executive of the BVRLA, explained that despite a "challenging" year for the British motor industry, businesses have ensured that manufacturers stay afloat.
According to the SMMT, business fleets have purchased nearly 60% of all new cars sold in 2011.
"It's great to see that this support [from business fleets] has helped boost UK-based vehicles manufacturers including MINI, Nissan and Jaguar," Mr Lewis stated.
However, the BVRLA warns that 2012 may be even tougher for vehicle manufacturers and companies will once again rely on fleets to increase their sales.
Consequently, according to Mr Lewis, manufacturers must avoid pushing prices up to ensure that fleets continue to invest in "newer, safer and more fuel efficient cars".
Figures released this week have also shown that the number of new vans and trucks registered in the UK has increased, indicating a return of confidence to the fleet sector.
