One of the hot topics for company car drivers and car contract hire customers in 2010 will be tax.

Fleet News, which published a round-up of what it believes will be on the agenda for the industry next year, reiterated that from April the CO2 emissions threshold at which the levy is payable will go down by five g/km.

This means that if one or more of a fleet emits between 134 g/km and 139 g/km, the partial exemption it qualified for will not be valid after the change.

Vehicles will have to give off between 121 g/km and 134 g/km to warrant a 15% fee. Diesels will be subject to a 3% surcharge.

However, company car drivers are likely to be affected further, following the chancellor of the exchequer's recent Pre-Budget Report.

The Telegraph summed up some of the changes, which largely suggest higher charges and fees for these road users.
