Drivers of company cars who are injured in a road accident in the future may find a new compensation system means they receive any money they are due quicker than they would have done in the past.

The Ministry of Justice announced the revised procedures earlier this week, which will apply to all claims worth between £1,000 and £10,000.

Motorists involved in personal injury cases will find the updated system utilises standardised online forms and set legal fees for each stage of the process.

The streamlined approach is designed to make submitting and receiving a decision on a claim more efficient.

Nick Starling from the Association of British Insurers (ABI) said the changes were positive.

"This new process will cut down on delays and reduce the high legal costs that are paid for through motor insurance premiums," he claimed.

Meanwhile, ABI recently voiced support for another government initiative.

It said plans to make owning a vehicle without cover an offence, rather than just driving uninsured, would make life more difficult for persistent law breakers.
