Companies considering which vehicle to opt for when their current contract hire deal is up for renewal may want to follow the example of the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

The organisation has taken delivery of 28 Citroen Berlingo First vans to help it carry out fire prevention activities.

It explained the vehicles would be used for a range of duties - from attending local fetes to installing fire alarms.

The group said it chose the model for a number of reasons.

Fleet controller Mike Walker stated: "The Berlingo First van has proved to be reliable, versatile and good value, which is important when you are spending taxpayers' money."

He also pointed out the manufacturer's models had always proved a good choice in the past.

This comes after the West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust recently opted for six Citroen Relay 40 L4H3 HDi 160 vans to help it with its frontline duties.
