Firms buying company cars may want to act fast
Businesses looking to buy company cars through the scrappage scheme may want to act sooner rather than later, if government comments are anything to go by.
A statement from the department for business, innovation and skills, released with the latest cash for bangers figures, reiterated the fact that the initiative is a short-term solution.
This may mean the country's leaders have no plans to increase the £300 million of funding set aside for participants in the programme.
So far, some 150,000 orders have been placed under the scheme.
Lord Mandelson, secretary of state for business, expressed satisfaction at the impact of the initiative.
He commented: "The scheme has contributed to the 13.5 per cent jump in car manufacturing and the first growth in new car registrations since April 2008."
Meanwhile, fleet bosses who have worked hard to produce a good risk management strategy may welcome news the government is to play its part in keeping English roads safe.
It recently announced it was making £440 million available to improve street lighting.
