EST urges businesses to save money through safer driving
The Energy Savings Trust (EST) has found that drivers who are given a car to use to drive to work spend 96 working days on the road each year.
While one per cent of drivers "hate" driving to work, 17 per cent confirmed in the research that they "absolutely love" their drive.
The EST also found that the average driver uses their company car an average of six times a week to make journeys shorter than two miles.
Identifying five types of driver, the EST claimed that car fleet managers who clamped down on 'petrol heads', by implementing smarter driving practices, economical cars and travel plans, could save their businesses up to £90,000 per year on a car fleet of 100 vehicles.
Nigel Underdown, head of transport advice at EST, commented: "It's basic dashboard management: get your employees saving you money and being safer on the road to boot.
"Getting smarter driving implemented in to businesses will help eliminate these wasteful driver 'tribes' and put everyone in to the 'Responsible Roadies' and 'Eco Driver' [categories]."
There is a potential £3 billion to be saved across UK businesses in the option to move onto more eco-friendly cars and more responsible use of fuel, the EST added.
