Those in control of a commercial vehicle hire contract, a car fleet or business car leasing deals may wish to go to Specsavers and pick up a copy of the latest guide to driving.

Regulation changes - due to come into effect in 2011 - mean commercial vehicle hire drivers will have to have their eyes tested every five years, while those with a private license will be examined every ten to 15 years, Fleet News reports.

Specsavers believes that roughly three-quarters of fleet solutions bosses in Britain are unaware of the upcoming change.

Explaining the need for a change, Specsavers' corporate account manager Laura Butler told the website: "The current 'number plate' eye test was devised in the 1930s. Since then, driving conditions have changed beyond all recognition."

The free guide will explain the rules and offer tips on how to improve safety and put an adequate risk management strategy in place.

One threat currently facing fleet solutions managers and their drivers is potholes, the number of which is said to have increased significantly as a result of recent cold weather. ADNFCR-1627-ID-19590891-ADNFCR
