Service and repair regulations may be set for change, as the matter of tougher rules has been discussed by the All-Party Parliamentary Motor Group (APMG).

In news that may be welcomed by those in the car contract hire sector, it has emerged that the group has discussed the need for standards to be set on what people can expect from the industry.

Chris Mason, director of Motor Codes, was joined by the Office of Fair Trading's Colin Brown and AMPG chairman Richard Burden in leading the debate.

"We are determined to build on the early success of the Service and Repair Code, working collaboratively with industry to raise and maintain standards across the sector through effective self-regulation," Mr Mason said.

This particular legislation is now backed by the government, as well as industry and consumer bodies - with nearly 6,000 garages now signed-up, Motor Codes has advised.

Recently, the organisation announced that it had appointed Tim Heavisides and Wendy Williamson to its board of non-executive directors.
