Euro NCAP yesterday (February 18th) revealed a new safety rating for cars which includes Safety Assist feature.

The single star rating now means that cars are graded in four areas, Adult Occupant, Child Occupant, Pedestrian Protection and Safety Assist, which includes evaluating the car's active safety technology such as driver assistance programs.

The new star rating model could offer car fleet buyers the opportunity to make a more informed decision regarding their choice of vehicle, in turn saving the business a significant sum through injury claims.

Moving to just one single star rating has taken Euro NCAP away from a star rating model which awarded a different rating for each factor, in a bid to force car manufacturers to provide better overall safety for all concerned.

What's more, the standards demanded of car manufacturers to reach the same number of cars will be increased annually, meaning revisions to each model will need to be made continually if manufacturers hope to maintain their original star rating.
