The UK has been braced for days of snowfall this week and while motorists are being warned to make only vital journeys, car fleet managers are nevertheless likely to be bracing themselves for a rise in the number of accidents on the road.

After one full day of snow, however, insurer Saga Motor Insurance has reported no significant rise in the number of claims as a result of accidents.

Roger Ramsden, chief executive at Saga, said: "Given the string of reports on the news this morning about the number of accidents and travel problems caused by the snow, most motor insurers will be expecting to see a huge increase in the number of people reporting claims today (February 2nd).

"However, we have seen no such increase in claims calls this morning."

Car fleet managers will no doubt welcome the severe warnings that have been widely publicised across Britain in recent days, informing drivers of ways to ensure they are as safe as possible on the road.

The cost of accidents across a large car fleet, for instance, can soon mount up and will come as most companies are strictly tightening their belts.
