The amount of time fleet managers have to file for claims over accidents involving their drivers is to be reduced, if new government proposals are approved.

Under current regulations fleets have up to three months to file a claim following an accident - a timeframe which a recent Ministry of Justice consultation said was excessive.

Following on from that study, Fleet News reports that Whitehall is on the verge of significantly reducing the amount of time afforded to fleet managers to just three weeks.

The Association of British Insurers (ABI), praised the government move, emphasising the benefits that claimant fleets would enjoy by having resolutions reached as early as possible.

Commenting on the changes, ABI spokesman Malcolm Tarling said: "The changes are aimed at speeding up the time that evidence is put together by parties in the majority of injury claims."

He continued: "The new framework that the government has laid out should allow drivers who are injured at work to have their claims dealt with much more quickly."
